How will you ensure you don’t bring an “old guard” attitude to Executive Council?
One of the most important things as President is being able to listen to the people that are around you. I will very much be relying on my Vice Presidents to give me a different perspective.
How will you push for improved campus spaces when student spaces will be fluctuating so much in the next 3 years?
In terms of “flux” spaces, this building is still going to be here in 10 years, at least, if not longer. In terms of funds, part of the referendum is going towards student spaces, so that is part of where that could come from. Exactly where the funds come from is yet to be determine but I know that we have the ability to do it.

What experience do you have serving as an advocate or objective advisor?
What I believe is important for students is someone that is energetic and a people person. Someone that is passionate about what they do and can take level-headed problem-solving and I believe those are some of the things I’ve learned from NAIT.
How will you ensure that you remain objective during appointments, grievances, meetings, and appeals?
When it comes to stuff like this, you have to put your feelings aside. The academic system, the way we have to do it, we have to take a non-emotional approach in some ways, listen to the problems and hear them right out. If you’re appointing someone, look at their skillset and look at their competitors’ skillset and find who would best fit the role. |

You mentioned starting clubs in your speech, could you explain how you belief this is related to the role of VP Student Services?
So I want to talk about how I can encourage people to open those clubs, something like inter-club competitions to bring some recognition to those guys.
What leadership and engagement experience are you bringing to the role?
For international students, it’s really tough to survive in Canada. So my whole concentration is making those students feel better. |

Since you transferred to NAIT, how will you ensure that you are well-informed about the issues you will need to advocate about on behalf of NAIT students?
I think coming from another school has helped broaden my perspective. As for here at NAIT, I think even just walking through the hallways is interesting. Just seeing the general demographic of students is easy to see what their current issues might be.
Were you involved on campus at your past school?
I participated a lot more, but I wasn’t directly involved with implementing those activities.
How will you prove to students that you are committed to the workload of this position?
I’ve been in synchronized skating for over 10 years, and basically it’s working as a team to perform a program rather than an individual one. Through that, I’ve really learned a lot about teamwork and leadership. So I’m able to cope with those high stress environments and perform under pressure, I’m used to the teamwork.

As a past Senator, how will you transition into a role you used to hold accountable?
I feel like I’m going to be more prepared because I know exactly how the meetings go and what the structure is. I also think my past Senate experience is going to help me because I have seen the role as a Senator and I know what kind of questions like they want to ask, what the reports should look like, and how to communicate with Senators to the best of my ability. Since you know the other side of the table, how will you ensure you are accessible and accountable to student leaders?
I think it’s important to just make your report as inclusive as you possibly can. Make sure that the Senators can understand, put it in layman’s terms. Know the kind of questions that could be asked and how you’re going to respond.
And how will you make yourself accessible and accountable to students from all program areas?
I think CAB has helped me transition from a program-minded view to a school-wide point of view. |

How will you ensure that you don’t bring an “old guard” attitude to Executive Council?
I don’t believe I’m an Incumbent candidate for the position I’m running for, so that changes quite a bit. For the new year, I’ve got new ideas and new projects I want to work on, and that’s why I’m running for a different position.
You mention “new bonuses and services” for students from NAIT. Could you elaborate?
What I meant was expanded services, specifically hoping for expanded hours. A lot of the services that we have here at NAIT are fantastic, if you’re at the school between 8 AM and 3 PM. If you’re a part-time, evening, or trades student, you don’t get access to those services. So hopefully working with NAIT to get those services to students so they don’t have to take time away from work or their studies in order to come in and use them.

How would you make Wellness Wednesday better and how much would that cost students?
Hopefully we could do something that’s mainly cheaper, but under the brand of Wellness Wednesdays, do little things, to make it broader. Because its every second Wednesday. If we could maybe do some tiny events on every other Wednesday when its not there, but under the same brand, to promote more engagement in the activities we have.
You want a mental health focus; are you unhappy with the work done in the past 2 years by NAITSA?
What I want to do is strengthen it. With the fund coming to an end, I hope that, if we can’t get it back, that I can at least do something to supplement it until we can get a fund to continue the fight.
