The Fugget is a satire newspaper that does not in any way represent the ideas and beliefs of NAITSA or NAIT.
Satire is defined as “the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or
vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.”
In proper satire, the goal is to poke fun at things that individuals or groups have chosen, not things they have been
born into or have (examples include: race, disability, sexual orientation and disease.)
Popular satire outlets include The Beaverton, The Onion, Saturday Night Live, National Lampoon, Funny or Die,
This Hour Has 22 Minutes and many more. Our staff is interested in this genre of writing and The Fugget provides a supportive
learning environment to practise these skills, at a college that creates practical educational experiences.
Our team holds the belief that freedom of speech is a right, and we are lucky to live in a country that respects that.
