Do we get Monday off?

by | Sep 15, 2022 | News

With the Queen’s death last Thursday and Justin Trudeau announcing that Monday the 19th will be a federal holiday, many on campus have been wondering what that means for NAIT. All federal government workers will get the day off, or will be paid time-and-a-half, while federally regulated organizations, such as airlines and banks, will still operate business-as-usual.

Jason Kenney has confirmed that Alberta will adopt a provincial day of mourning for the late Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, confirming Monday will not be a provincial statutory holiday like Labour Day, or Thanksgiving. The provincial government will host a ceremony on Monday morning. As far as students are concerned, Monday will still be a regular day of school.

The next statutory holiday will be Truth & Reconciliation Day, on September 30th. Beginning on the 22nd, there will be events hosted all over campus to learn, share in solidarity and honour residential school survivors.
